Prepare for Canada spoke to her to get her valuable insights about how to develop a career plan. Ironically, none of her tips even mention resume, job hunting, or LinkedIn. Those elements, Ryan stated, are all about attitude and approach. In contrast, the tips she offers provide the building blocks of any successful life transition. She discussed five key tips that she has come to believe are the building blocks of any successful transition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1: Get focused<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>2: Get real<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>3: Get knowledgeable<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>4: Get prepared<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>5: Get on with it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-pfc-what-s-a-good-starting-point-to-develop-a-career-plan-especially-for-people-who-want-to-build-a-new-career-in-canada\"><strong><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-red-color\">PFC:<\/span> What\u2019s a good starting point to develop a career plan, especially for people who want to build a new career in Canada.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-red-color\">Linda Ryan: <\/span><\/strong>My first tip is to <strong>get focused<\/strong>. \u201cAdopting the &#8216;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/pulse\/survival-jobs-newcomers-canada-perfect-storm-linda-ryan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">&#8216;I&#8217;ll take any job&#8217;<\/a> mindset is one of the most unhelpful approaches to career transition, especially in a new country.\u201d Accepting any job, or what&#8217;s also known as a survival job, serves to pay the bills while you search for a job that aligns with your:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Career dreams<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Education<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Qualifications, and&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Industry experience.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>However, accepting &#8220;any job&#8221; is not a sustainable career development strategy.
